Build and Be Scene back at The Well Garden!!

It is always a pleasure to do projects as a business for any client no matter how big or small the job. We at Build and Be Scene enjoy the diversity we get from the varied projects which come through for us. Once a project is completed and constructed to life and you get repeat business from that particular client, it is a compliment to one's work and business. This has been the case for Build and Be Scene from The Well Garden

If you have been following our blogs you may remember April 2016 when we built the folding benches at The Well Garden. This was a custom made seating solution for them where by we made it possible for the room to be a yoga studio as well as a meeting area by making some strong benches which folded up to the wall.

The picture to the left was the finished product we at Build and Be Scene produced for The Well Garden which gave a perfect solution to the dual use of the room with a minimal slice of effort to achieve. Not only does it fit into the surroundings of a natural yoga studio but it also mixes contemporary design with old school practicality.

In keeping with their natural look as well as ethos, The Well Garden contacted Build and Be Scene to produce a storage unit for them in their primary yoga studio for storage of their high standard equipment. However the storage unit was to have adjustable shelves throughout and be made from birch plywood.

Birch plywood in my opinion these days is the ideal material to use when producing contemporary furniture. It has the beauty of a wooden face that when prepared well and varnished looks superb. To have a hard wood piece of furniture these days would cost you hundreds and if not thousands due to the price it costs to machine and laminate hard wood in this day and age. Therefore birch plywood is a more than acceptable compromise for the wood look as such, at a fraction of the cost.

Each sheet of birch plywood still comes in at a hefty £70 a sheet however is a mere scratch on the surface on what the equivalent quantity would be in real Birch wood. The edges of course on birch plywood have the signature plywood lines, however these days this has become somewhat of a sought after look and may even go as far as to say that it show's off modern techniques in our ability to create a compromise to a sheet of wood on an environmentally friendly level. Not to mention the ease of availability being able to source it at most timber merchants and DIY stores such as B&Q and Wickes.

With the use of shelf pins on the insides of the shelving unit it makes it possible for each shelf to be moved into the desired position meaning much more flexibility for the future. It is a common mis-conception by people these days when buying or commissioning a unit such as this that they judge the height of their shelves by what they currently have or want to put on there. However as time evolves and new equipment or belongings are bought, the new items may not fit inside the shelves. This is where adjustable shelves come in and prove their advantage.

By drilling a series of equally spaced holes on the inside of the unit, it enables the shelf pins to be placed at whatever height one may wish and then the shelf placed on top of it and just like a preordained piece of magic: the shelf is at a different height.

Due to Build and Be Scene's experience and knowledge in custom furniture building, we advised The Well Garden on this and they wisely took the advice meaning they have full flexibility in their new aesthetically natural unit.

While installing The Well Garden with their new shelving unit, we had a chance to see how the folding benches we made for them in April 2016 are getting on. To the right is the folding benches we made for them and we are pleased to report that they are still every bit as strong, sturdy and contemporary as when we first installed them.

They still serve their purpose in every way they were intended to and still prove to be a hit in this successful yoga studio which is always a good thing to know and gives compliment to the standard we at Build and Be Scene offer and provide.

In London, space is rapidly declining due to the demand of the extremely high populous and limited space to create new buildings. Therefore designs and constructions such as ours are extremely valuable to have in spaces such as The Well Garden's as they can give two uses into one venue.
